With over twenty years of teaching, contract education development, and management experience in the Los Rios Community College District, Jim Comins comes to the position of Health Care Initiative Director with an strong background in education, health care, grant coordination, and economic development. Jim began his career with Los Rios Community College District as an instructor in the Associate Degree Nursing program at Sacramento City College. After serving as a coordinator of Contract Education at the Los Rios Training Source, Jim became the Director of the Northern California Regional Health Occupations Resource Center at American River College in 1992. He also served as Tech/Prep Coordinator in Health Occupations for American River College. He assumed the position of Health Care Initiative Director in 1999 moving from a Department Chair position in Computer Information Sciences at American River College.

John Peleuses

John Peleuses has more than 30 years experience in the health care sector.  John completed his respiratory therapy training at Indiana University in 1972, and began his career in hospitals immediately following his education.  John has held numerous positions over the years, both in the clinical and non-clinical areas of hospital administration, as well as clinical education.  These positions include direct patient care, department management, clinical instructor, and internal corporate consultant.  John has also served as a member of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway medical team for the past 34 years.  In his current position as Director of Respiratory Care at USC - University Hospital and USC - Norris Cancer Hospital, John is responsible for the day to day administration  of operations of the Respiratory Therapy Department focusing on: Quality, Service, People, Cost, and Growth.

Karen Sirski-Martin holds a Master's Degree in Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Critical Care and has a specialty in education. She has held such positions as Clinical Nurse/Critical Care, Clinical Supervisor Emergency Department/Urgent Care, Clinical Educator, Director of Critical Care/Emergency Department/Gastrointestinal Laboratory Services, House Supervisor, Director of Education , Director of Nursing, and Independent Nurse Consultant.

She has traveled as far as the Ukraine to assist in the Education of Missionary Nurses on ways and means to bring Health Care in a third world country to the 21st century.


 

Kimberly Mayer

Kimberly Mayer joined the California Institute for Mental Health (CiMH) in 2008 as project manager for the Greater Bay Area Mental Health & Education Workforce Collaborative, focused on workforce development in the public mental health sector. Prior to joining CiMH she served in several management positions with Contra Costa County Health Services, where she developed and implemented new programs and services in the Alcohol & Other Drug Services and Mental Health Divisions of the department. From 2004 to 2008 she was the Project Manager for the Mental Health Services Act (Prop 63), leading planning and implementation for new projects and strategies throughout Contra Costa County including treatment services, supportive housing and workforce development. Prior to her work for Contra Costa County she managed a grant writing consulting firm, working with municipalities nationwide. Kimberly has a background in nonprofit and for-profit management, and has worked in and consulted to several human service organizations. She received her bachelors degree from the University of California at Berkeley and masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University.

Marlene Ruiz

Marlene received her Nursing diploma from the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing in Uniontown Pennsylvania in 1960. She began her nursing career holding staff nursing positions in obstetrics and operating room nursing from 1960 through 1968 at several San Diego hospitals including: Mercy Hospital, Villa View, College Park, and Kaiser Foundation. In 1968 she became the Director of Nursing Education at Kaiser Foundation Hospital. The job and title have changed over the years with added scope of responsibility, adding patient education in the early 80''''s, research in the mid 80''''s and finally in 1994 changing the title to Director of Education and Consulting Services for all areas  of staff education from MD to Environmental Services. She also returned to academia and obtained a BSN and MA in Education from San Diego State University in 1975 and 1979 respectively. While working at Kaiser Foundation she has taught at many of the academic programs in the community and has served or had representatives from her department on most of their advisory boards. She is co-developer of the SD Consortium for the placement of all nursing students clinical experience. Marlene coordinated and teaches in the Nursing NCLEX review for the San Diego Welcome Back Program.

Active in professional groups, Marlene is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, The Association of California Nurse Leaders and the National Nursing Staff Development Organization. In the community she actively supports the United Way and YWCA organizations.


 

Moreen Lane

Moreen Lane is a Senior Policy Analyst for the California Workforce Investment Board. Moreen has represented the State Board on the California Hospital Association's Allied Health Care Workforce Advisory Board, California Health Professions Consortium, California Primary Care Association and the California Health Workforce Alliance. She has worked with many statewide partners in the development of healthcare-related grants. She also worked with the Department of Education on the Health Science Pathways program and has participated in the annual Health Science Educators Institute. As a policy analyst at the California Youth Authority, she worked with national experts on the the Medical and Sex Offender programs for youthful offenders.

Morris Eagleman

Morris Eagleman served in the U.S. Air force during the Viet Nam war.  After the military he began college obtaining a BSN and MBA.  He has over 25 years of management and administrative experience in health care.  For the past 7 years he has served as Vice President of Patient Care Services at Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta.


 

Noel Diaz

A UCLA alumnus with a BA in biomedical illustration and then tenured as university cartographer, Noel Diaz transitioned into the health care field with his completion in 1995 of the Loma Linda University allied health BS and credential program, specializing in health information administration.  From long-term care settings to the acute care hospital environment, he has served over the last dozen years both as health information management director and continuous process improvement coordinator.  Still wearing two hats at the same time, he is fully engaged today at Sansum Clinic in Santa Barbara as both health information services director and privacy officer.

 

Noel gravitated towards a health care occupation following a two-year German language study program at the University of Vienna, Austria, where, as an extracurricular activity, he tutored non-German-speaking Asian overseas nurses in medical terminology and basic computer skills.  He is a long-standing active member of AHIMA and CHIA, currently volunteering as mentor to aspiring students and focusing on seminar design and planning.  Locally, he is on the advisory board for the Santa Barbara City College HIT program.

 
Noel's keen interest in education extends globally, having been executive planner and organizer, for example, for an international symposium of university cartographers held in Los Angeles in 1985.  Today, as president of the central coast chapter of ARMA International, he continues to help provide it?s over 10,000 members around the world with continuing education opportunities by way of seminars, workshops, online tutorials, tours, publications, and conferences.

Sharon Vogel RN, MSN

Sharon Vogel has been a Registered Nurse for 31 years with an impressive background. She has served in medical/surgical, ICU/CCU, Neuro/surgical intensive care units, and as an office and surgical nurse. She is a specialist in wound and ostomy care. She has served in a variety of management positions in acute, home care, and long term care. She has also been a nurse consultant, case manager, and quality assurance and utilization review nurse. Sharon now holds the position of faculty member in the Butte Community College Associate Degree Program. She has 17 years of teaching experience in community colleges teaching a variety of nursing and allied health fields including CNA/HHA, LVN, and ADN. Her teaching specialty is Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing in the third semester of the ADN program.

Her extensive background in campus and statewide leadership positions includes 10 years on the Staff Development, Multicultural, Accreditation, Curriculum, Budget, Tenure, and Enrollment Management committees. She served on the campus Academic Senate for six years in a variety of roles including Secretary, Vice President and President. She currently is serving on the State Community College Academic Senate as representative to the Statewide Health Occupations Advisory Committee. During her tenure on the State Academic Senate she has served as Area A representative, Chair of Faculty Development, a member of the legislative committee, a member of the Associate of Arts Degree Task Force and Basic Skills. She has been Liaison to the California Association of Occupational Educators, EPAC, 3-CNAC, Lead of the Nursing IMPAC Group, on the Workforce Advisory Committee and member of the Early College committee.

 

Stephanie Leach

Stephanie is the Assistant Secretary for Policy and Program Development at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. The Labor Agency facilitates the Governor's Task Force for the California Nurse Education Initiative and the Governor's Allied Health Initiative. Stephanie works with healthcare workforce partners in education and industry on an ongoing basis. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Chapman University.

       

Ann Durham

Ann Durham, RN, MSN, FNP, Esq. Ann Durham is RHORC Director for San Diego & Imperial Counties (Region 10), hosted by Grossmont College. She is a nurse with over 30 years of experience and has practiced in a wide variety of fields. In 1993, she earned her MSN and worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in University Student Health Centers. She then transitioned into teaching in the Nurse Practitioner programs at George Mason University, the University of Kansas, and the University of Hawaii. Upon arrival in San Diego in 1999, she was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2002. Ms. Durham then worked as a law school Admissions Officer for 3 years while she practiced as an attorney pursuing Social Security Disability Appeals for people with HIV/AIDS. In early 2006, Ms. Durham became Director of the Regional Nursing Education Partnership of San Diego & Imperial Counties, where she managed a three-year $2 million grant. In April, 2008, she assumed the position of RHORC Director, and also holds the position of Director of the San Diego Welcome Back Center, which helps internationally trained health professionals get licensed to work in the United States.

Diane Welch

Diane Welch is the Project Coordinator for the DS VTEA supported California Community College Nursing Advisory Committee (3CNAC).  This committee provides advice to the Chancellor's office on matters pertaining to ADN nursing. She is the former ADN Director of Sacramento City College and former Chair of the Northern California ADN Directors.  Diane graduated from the St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing in Nashville, TN in 1965. She began her nursing career at the Sacramento County Hospital (later renamed the University of California Davis-Sacramento Medical Center) as an OB nurse. Diane accepted a promotion at UCD-SMC to Assistant Director of the Maternal Child Nursing Unit, and later served as Head Nurse of the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. She obtained her BSN from California State University-Sacramento in 1978. She began her instructional career in 1978 as a pediatrics instructor in the Sacramento City College Licensed Vocational Nursing program. She continued her education while teaching at SCC receiving her MSN in Maternal/Child Nursing in 1982. In 1981 she moved from the LVN program to the SCC Associate Degree Nursing Program. In 1994 Diane assumed the position of Director of the Nursing programs at SCC. 

 

Jill Tregor

Jill Tregor is the Director of the Regional Health Occupations Resource Center for the Interior Bay Region, which is hosted at City College of San Francisco.  Jill has worked as an advocate, educator, trainer, and facilitator in the public health field since 1987, focusing primarily on issues of inter group relations, women's health, and social justice.

 

Her previous work includes positions as the Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood Association of San Mateo County, and as the Executive Director of Intergroup Clearinghouse, an organization which provided assistance to victims of hate motivated violence and worked to address and eliminate such violence through advocacy, public policy, community organizing, and education.  She directed the San Francisco site of a federally funded pilot project aimed at addressing the intersection of domestic violence and child maltreatment, coordinating collaboration between child protective services, Family Courts, batterer intervention services, and domestic violence service organizations.

 

Most recently she was the Senior Policy Analyst for Domestic Violence Policies and Programs for the City and County of San Francisco.  Jill received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Women's Studies of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and her Masters Degree in Public Health/Community Health Education from San Francisco State University.

Linda Zorn MA, RD, FAWHP

Ms Zorn is a skilled wellness specialist and a Registered Dietitian hired to direct the RHORC activities at Butte College. Ms. Zorn's experience includes providing professional health services for Mercy Medical Center, California Medical Foundation, Pacific Wellness Institute at CSU, Chico and at private physician offices. She graduated from Marquette University with a Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Development and Communications and remains an active member of the Association for Worksite Health Promotion. Currently, Ms. Zorn is also coordinating the LVN to RN Outreach program to service the rural areas in her region.

Marsha Roberson RN, MN

Since 1993, Marsha Roberson has developed and facilitated many successful training programs. From RN/LVN Home Health to Pharmacy Technician program development, Ms. Roberson has been instrumental in responding to the workforce needs of area businesses. Her prior experience includes serving as Director of the Critical Care Master's Program at CSULB and as an international training consultant. Ms. Roberson is a graduate from UCLA, where she received her Master of Nursing Degree. She has also completed doctoral courses at the University of San Diego.

 

Mary O'Connor RN, MSN

Mary O'Connor is a nursing consultant with 30 years experience in both clinical and education settings. She has a BSN from Mount St. Mary's College in Los Angeles and a MSN from California State University in Dominguez Hills. Mary practiced critical care nursing for 12 years before becoming a hospital educator. She has developed and implemented curricula in hospitals and community colleges and is known for her easy explanations of difficult concepts, dynamic presentations and interactive classes. Mary has developed an online course for basic EKG interpretation and is currently working with various grants and community colleges to provide critical care education, preceptor workshops, and distance learning.

Valerie Fisher, RN MA

Valerie Fisher joined College of the Sequoias as Director of the Regional Health Occupations Resource Center the Fall of 2008. She has a unique background in grant management, program development, health education and 20 years working as a registered nurse (ER/Trauma/Flight Nursing). Valerie has worked for MedAir, San Mateo County Office of Education, the Private Industry Council of San Luis Obispo, the California Transplant Donor Network, and most recently with the Foundation for Global Community in Palo Alto. She is a native Californian and received her RN from Saddleback College (1978), her BA from John F. Kennedy University (1996), and her MA from Holy Names College in Oakland (1998). In her leisure Valerie enjoys music, nature, and travel.
